K no K 24 Ryu and Sakura by gpanthony K no K 24 Ryu and Sakura by gpanthony
Ryu and Sakura Kasugano from the STREET FIGHTER series by Capcom.
Ryu is a student and foster son of Gouken, and was trained in the non lethal version Ansatsuken since a young age. While he was fighting in the Street Fighter 1 tournament, Gouken's brother Gouki (Akuma) attacked and killed Gouken. When Ryu reached the end of the tournament, he fought with the Muai Thai Emperor, Sagat. Ryu was beaten badly by Sagat, and when Sagat offered to help Ryu to his feet, Ryu was consumed by the Satsui no Hado and scarred Sagat's chest with the Metsu Shoryuken... Several years later, Ryu seeks to become a true martial artist and defeat Gouki and the Satsui no Hado inside of him...
Sakura Kasugano is a school girl who idolizes Ryu after watching him fight. She is able to mimic his moves by watching his fights, and has formed her own version of Ansatsuken. After fighting with Ryu once, she decides that to better understand "the true meaning of 'fight'", she needs to see Ryu again. After helping him to overcome the Satsui no Hado inside of Ryu, Ryu defeats Vega (M. Bison) and they part ways. Many years after that, Ryu meets Sakura who is a gym teacher so that they can fight again...
I really love these characters... so to do this fan art was very troublesome in many ways... I want the work to reflect my techniques but also stay faithful to the characters. I hope I have done them justice... though I don't think Ryu's chin is wide enough, and Sakura's face could be a bit wider... maybe I'm being overly consciencous. I'm sure many of you have fond memories of the STREET FIGHTER series like I do, and still continue to play from time to time like I do. My favorites are Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike. I also like the characters Karin, Q, Dudley (though I'm not good with him), and Nash. I really hope these are enjoyable for you and are good.

Okay, I've been looking at this for what, two weeks now? I like the look of your style; I think I've told you that enough times by now. You do such nice line work, and you choose good colors. Your work with clothing and faces is still your best subject... you put so much into the expressiveness of it, how can I not like your stuff, regardless of wether I Like it or Love it?

So, I'm not up on the fighting games... most of them are just names and quazi familiar faces to me.

So bearing all that in mind, I do like this picture. Sakura has such a cute look... kind of like "just you wait until he tries to undo his belt... I superglued the knot"...What I wonder more is why everyone chooses "Sakura" ... it's such a pretty name when you consider the meaning. Cherry Blossom.

But then I get to thinking... I listen to "Oh Cherry Blossom Cherry Blossom", when I eat at the "Cherry Blossom", having my "Cherry Blossom" sushi plate, being served by "Cherry Blossom", and reading "Cherry Blossom" and watching an anime on TV that is a different title than the Manga but still has a "Cherry Blossom" within the ranks of the characters...

*blink* ... Aren't there any other trees in Japan? *lol*

Sakura's a great name. Another Japanese tree related name is Momiji, which is Maple. I'm sure there's plenty more but I can't remember them right now. As always, I'm pleased that this pic warrented a comment from you, and a lengthy and humorous one at that! And speaking of Sakura... Yes, she did super glue Ryu's belt shut...

ya know, I was surprised that nothing ever developed between them. As in a relationship sense.
